Alumni: Camp Needs You!

 

For over 90 years, CBC (1932) & EPJ/Camp Joslin (1934) have been more than a camp - they've been the first place many of us ever felt truly understood. It's where we learned that diabetes doesn't define us, and where lifelong friendships were born over campfires, fishbowl talks, patrol, buddy checks, and just one more announcement after lunch.  (Announcements, AnNOUNcements, AnNOUNceMETs ... ugh!)

 

Over the past 5 years, the world around camp has changed, and we're at a crossroads. Costs for staffing, medical care, and the systems that keep our campers safe have climbed rapidly. We lost a "generation" of kids and staff with the pandemic, and we are feeling the results.

 

A week at camp costs $3,476 per camper. Families are charged $1,600, and because of scholarships, the organization recovers about half that. Two-week sessions cost even more - but those extra days are where deeper learning, confidence, and connection really bloom. As you know, The Barton Center is powered by people like us, alums & volunteers who know firsthand the difference those two weeks in the woods can make.

Clara Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc. is one of the largest, independent camping and educational programs in the country dedicated to children who live with diabetes and the people who care for them. The Barton Center is a year-round camp, retreat, and conference center where learning and shared experiences combine to support and motivate children and families. More than 2,000 children and their families participate in our programs annually. The focus of our programs is fun and support; the goal is to educate children and their families on how to manage the dialy rigors of diabetes, so they can live fuller and healthier lives.
